Children's Day -- a day dedicated to children -- is observed as an event across the world to celebrate childhood and promote awareness about children's welfare. Endorsed by global organizations and governments, this celebration aims to promote the wellbeing of children and to uplift their social rights. In 1954, the United Nations with discretion has recognized November 20 as Universal Children's Day to create attentiveness on the commitment on the development of children and ensure a better future. However, celebration date varies regionally and like every year India will observe Children's Day 2011 on November 14.

Christmas Celebration – A Report
Christmas is a time of revelry, gaiety and happiness. It is on this joyous and traditional occasion the Pailan World School celebrated Christmas on the 24th of December 09 to usher in the  spirit of giving, sharing, compassion and togetherness through a Nativity Play (traditional skit depicting the birth of Jesus) and Inter House Carol Singing Competition.
The Carol singers from the 4 Houses filled the grounds of Pailan World School campus with the melodious strains as they sang the traditional songs of “Silent Night, Holy Night, Jingle Bells etc”. This was shortly followed by a Hip Hop and salsa dance by the students of Senior School which made the audience tap its feet to the energetic and vibrant dance steps.
Side by side PWS Junior Section also hosted an ‘ Art Mela’ where beautiful glass paintings, artefacts, ornaments and other decorative items were displayed for an ‘ exhibition cum sale’ which was a total sellout. It was decided that the proceeds from the sale would go to a charitable organization.
The Christmas programme gave way to a PTM where teachers successfully interacted with parents to give a clear picture about their ward’s performance and general progress in school.
The high point of the day however was reserved for the last when students and teachers greeted each other Merry Christmas unabashedly and Happy New Wear greeting’s rang out loudly as the school buses left the campus one by one.

The student interaction program- “EVERY CHILD IS SPECIAL” in the memory of Abhishek Saha on the eve of “Diwali”

We all know a large number of children in our metropolis as well as in other rural areas live below poverty lines, without proper shelter or basic needs. Pailan World school had initiated a modest attempt to bring smile back to their faces, at least for a brief period, during the coming festival “DIWALI”
We had selected an N.G.O. “Alo Kolkata Foundation”. They are providing informal education to about 80 street children living under the bridges of Hastings , Budge Budge and on the platform of Sealdah Station. There was also another N.G.O. who is engaged in the same work with the poor and backward children of “Bayar Bati in Sundarban” areas who face a lot of hardship in their lives. We had invited those children to our school on 16.10.2009 on the eve of “DIWALI” for a student interaction program. Our students performed a Bengali Dance Drama “ Tushar-mala” choreographed By Mrs. Moumita Dhara. Even our “little angels” performed a dance. They were presented with a small token of Diwali gift in the form of clothes, stationery items, fire crackers, dry food items etc brought by the children. They also visited our    “ Food Mela” and tasted different food items from the variety of stalls. Our “little stars” were very delighted to get back with all their hands full and smiles of thanks on their faces. It was indeed a great privilege rendered to us which we all look forward for many more.
